10 and Under Tennis ~ OC Fall 2011 Series
Dear 10 and Under Tennis Player Parent,
Here is some additional information on our program: The first thing players need to do is to register into the system for the Fall 2011 Series Season. Whether you play one or all ten days in the Series, there is a one-time $20 fee which you will pay online. After you fill out the RESERVE A SPOT form on the OC 10 and Under Tennis Series page of the website: www.orangecountyusta.com you will receive instructions on how to complete this registration with a specific team number. Players will receive an OC 10 and Under Series hat with their registration. This process only needs to be completed once. For future dates in the series, when you fill out the RESERVE A SPOT form, you will simply click the button that you’ve already paid the one-time registration fee.
Match play will be provided each day from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the three different levels, red, orange and green ball. Players will be grouped according to their ability, given a color-coded rubber wrist band indicating their level (red, orange or green) and sent out to those courts to warm up. During the warm up, we may move some players to different levels. When we are ready to begin, we will call all the players in and they will be assigned to either the BLUE Team or the PURPLE Team, and be given another wrist band showing which team they are on.
Next, they will be assigned opponents, and a court to go out and play their first match. We will have volunteers on each court helping the players with anything they need help with, i.e. scoring, line calls, when to change sides, sportsmanship, and the main thing, we will be encouraging them to have fun, because this is what we want the day to be about. After their match, they will come in and report their score, can take a break for a snack or drink if they wish and they will soon after be assigned a new court, opponent, partner, and match and they go play again. The day will continue like this, focusing on the players having fun while they are learning to play their matches. (The players on the red ball court will of course need far more input during their matches than those who are playing on the full-size courts with green ball that day.)
We hope that the players will progress during the season and ideally be ready to begin playing in our Saturday Jr. Team Tennis Program as soon as they feel they are ready. We do have a full flight this Fall of 10 and Under Tennis teams playing on a full court with the green low-compression ball, so it’s quite possible they will soon be ready for OC Jr. Team Tennis.
Our Series is intended to be a low-key, introduction to match play tennis for the players at these levels.
You are welcome to bring your own snacks for the day. We will have snacks available for purchase. Proceeds will go to buy equipment for our OC After School Tennis program and a program intended to scholarship NJTL players through our OC Jr. Team Tennis program.
